Construction cleaning happens in three stages: a rough clean during the construction phase, an interim clean before the finishing work and a final clean before handover. Only after the final clean is a new build or renovated space ready to move into. Planning the cleaning early avoids delays at acceptance.

The three stages of construction cleaning

  1. Rough clean (construction phase): rubble, packaging and coarse dirt are removed. This keeps the site safe and accessible.
  2. Interim clean (before finishing work): before painting, laying floor coverings or assembling furniture, dust is thoroughly removed so it doesn’t get worked in.
  3. Final clean (before handover): all surfaces are cleaned so that users can move in straight away.

What the final clean includes

  • Windows, frames and glass surfaces, including removing labels, paint and mortar splashes
  • Cleaning floors to suit the covering, applying a first protective treatment if needed
  • Sanitary areas: tiles, fittings, toilet, washbasins, showers
  • Doors, frames, radiators, light switches and sockets
  • Window sills, stairs, railings
  • Kitchen units and built-in cupboards, inside and out
  • Fine dust from all surfaces

What matters

The right timing. The final clean only comes when all trades have finished. Any rework afterwards brings new dust.

The right technique. Fresh surfaces are sensitive. The wrong cleaning agents or tools can damage glass, natural stone or fittings.

Construction dust is stubborn. Fine plaster and cement dust settles in gaps and vents and reappears after a simple clean. A second pass is often necessary.

Who needs construction cleaning?

  • Developers and builders before handover to buyers or tenants
  • Property managers after a refurbishment or a tenant changeover with renovation
  • Companies after refitting offices, practices or retail space
  • Hotels after renovating rooms or floors

Can construction cleaning be passed on to tenants?

No. Cleaning after construction or renovation work is a one-off expense and is not a recoverable operating cost.

Frequently asked questions

Short answers.

When should I book construction cleaning?

Ideally when you plan the construction schedule. Then the date is fixed as soon as the trades have finished.

How long does a final clean take?

That depends on the area and how dirty it is. A flat is often done in a day; larger properties take several days.

Do you also remove paint splashes and stickers?

Yes. That is part of our final clean.
